Breathing Meditation

October 18, 2017

The following paragraph is a breathing exercise on cultivating self-appreciation:

Sit or lie in a quiet, safe area.

Give yourself a few minutes and take a few slow, gentle breaths.

-Inhale deeply and fill the belly...

-Pause for 2 seconds...

-Exhale for 4 to 6 seconds...

Repeat.

Observe your breathing. Gently close your eyes or leave them open - whichever feels right for you. While keeping some of your attention on your breathing, place your hands over your heart. Begin generating a sense of self-love and self-compassion. Create a sense of tenderness for yourself, like you would care for an innocent infant. You have always done your very best to survive in this life, all of your efforts deserve appreciation. When was the last time you thanked yourself just for being you. This may be the first time that you have appreciated yourself just for being a unique individual. Its OK if you feel emotional. Continue breathing - generating a sense of compassion towards yourself.

When you feel ready to finish take a deep breath in and release any tension in your body as you exhale. Move your legs and your arms. Squeeze your eyes and open them. Focus on the room, and when you are ready close this meditation on self-appreciation.

Feel free to repeat this exercise anytime you feel like you need to provide some self-care.
